Zambia Walking Safaris
Zambia epitomizes the less traveled, more intimate safari experience. Safe and welcoming, this hidden gem is the birthplace of the walking safari. Pioneered in South Luangwa National Park, known for its wildlife-rich oxbow rivers, the Zambia walking safari was designed to create a more exhilarating and connective safari experience while encouraging sustainable tourism and support for local communities. Today Zambia boasts 20+ national parks and 36 game management areas, representing a third of the country, and has amongst the best trained guides in Africa.

Accommodations
The Zambia safari lodges we include in our itineraries are very purposefully and carefully chosen for their secluded locations, prime wildlife viewing and tasteful design. They range from authentic bush camps to organically inspired luxury. All are small, intimate, owner-operated lodges offering five-star hospitality experiences. Delicious food, beautifully appointed rooms and excellent, highly trained guides make each camp unique and exclusive in every way.
Activity Level
Our Zambia safari tours follow the country’s “walking safari” tradition, led by a guide and an armed scout, and each walk is typically 2 to 3 hours long, with many stops to observe wildlife. The walks are not meant to be strenuous, and the terrain is gently rolling; however, with temperatures reaching 30C or 86F in September, it is warm. There is always a stop for a cup of tea or a cold drink at a special place on the river or under the ebony trees to refresh.
Getting there
Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka, is the principal entry point into the country for most Zambia safari tours. There are three main ways to fly into Lusaka — via Dubai on Emirates, via Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airways, or via South Africa Airlines or Proflight Airlines.
Insurance
Medical travel insurance is required to participate in our tour. Your insurance plan should include full medical coverage, emergency evacuation and emergency repatriation. Travel interruption insurance is highly recommended.
